The British gaming sector is implementing additional safeguards to shield young individuals. Effective October 1st, wagering firms must guarantee their advertisements on social platforms are exclusively viewed by those aged 25 and above. This action follows a study revealing that numerous providers had violated promotional guidelines, with some advertisements even reaching minors.
The BGC, representing the industry, asserts that this illustrates their dedication to ethical advertising practices. They stress a zero-tolerance approach towards gambling by those underage and emphasize these recent measures as evidence of their commitment to safeguarding susceptible individuals.
Beyond the age restrictions on social media, the updated regulations also stipulate that any gaming promotions displayed on internet search tools must explicitly indicate their intended audience as adults only.
Users of the video-sharing platform YouTube must confirm they meet age requirements before being shown promotions for wagering.
Furthermore, Dugher stressed the duty of digital platforms to ensure user safety in the online world, urging the government to articulate this with absolute clarity in the forthcoming online safety legislation.
