The Connecticut Legislative Assembly has adopted a measure that will authorize a modified accord permitting the state’s two indigenous operators to present internet wagering and athletic betting.
The legislation, identified as House Bill 6451, was approved last evening (May 20) by a margin of 122-21 and will now be forwarded to the state Senate for additional deliberation and discussion.
If the legislation is also endorsed by the Senate, it will be submitted to Governor Ned Lamont for his endorsement, and subsequently to the U.S. Department of the Interior for concluding scrutiny prior to becoming law.
The legislation, introduced by Representative Brian Smith, aims to formalize an understanding reached by Lamont in March with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe.
The amended gaming accord will enable the tribes to provide internet and in-person athletic betting, alongside internet casino games and fantasy sports competitions.
Internet wagering and athletic betting will be offered both within the tribes’ physical gambling establishments and off-site. Each tribe will be permitted to operate a single internet sports betting platform and a solitary internet casino platform.
