Frances gaming oversight body, the National Gaming Authority (ANJ), has declared its intention to maintain close scrutiny of gaming activities within the nation, following a recent crackdown on Euro Cup promotional materials.

The agency unveiled this course of action while releasing a comprehensive report summarizing its inaugural year as France’s primary gambling regulator. The agency officially assumed this role last June.

The proposed plan, encompassing five distinct initiatives, was announced on July 21st and is grounded in the ANJ’s resolute commitment to curbing the “excessive” use of gambling advertisements during the Euro Cup tournament.

Consequently, the ANJ intends to prioritize advertising-related matters. The regulatory body has cautioned operators to curtail the volume of Euro Cup gambling ads, citing an overabundance of such promotions and a disproportionate targeting of young audiences.

The plan will involve a re-evaluation of operators’ marketing strategies, a process already undertaken at the commencement of the year. Furthermore, it will initiate consultations with stakeholders on the subject of advertising at the onset of the new academic year, potentially leading to the implementation of novel intervention methods. The ANJ will also disseminate “more precise and practical” guidelines pertaining to advertising by the years end.

The French National Gaming Authority (ANJ) is actively working to establish clear guidelines for what constitutes “sensible” betting incentives. They will host a workshop to define the boundaries of excessive gambling.

The ANJ has joined forces with the French Addiction Organization (OFDT) to gain a deeper understanding of gambling addiction.

The ANJ is also addressing complaints regarding operators restricting player wagers and will pursue legal action against unauthorized gambling websites.

The ANJ has previously voiced concerns about player protection measures and has urged licensed operators to enhance their practices.
